My name is Jana and I want to tell you about a place that has changed my life.
There was a time in my life where I had made many bad choices. I had been drinking alcohol a lot and had convinced myself that my life had no purpose. The consequences of those poor decisions were to the extent of my children being removed from my care. I was constantly depressed about my life and the mistakes I had made.
Then one day everything changed.
I remember that as I would struggle through those dark days I would pray to God to help me. I continually believed that He would give me the strength to keep going. One day I felt that the LORD had spoken to me and said, “Jana grow up. You need to deal with your problems. Do whatever it takes for you to see and be around your kids. They need you.” It was then that I stopped drinking and hanging out with the wrong people. I made the decision to go to the shelter. For the first time in a long time I began to focus on taking care of me. I got into the pattern of going to work every day. Looking back it seemed that every chance I could I would spend it talking to Jesus in prayer.
I’m grateful for the friends, family, and deepened relationship with the LORD that I made through my stay at the shelter. It turned my life around for the better. It has taken a lot of hard work and patience, but I now have my children back in my life on a regular basis. I now have my own car and have paid off many past debts by learning how to save money through the programs at the shelter. On May 11, 2014, I married a wonderful gentleman (Warren) that I met at the shelter.
